Earlier this week, Apple announced that John Browett will be joining Apple as the company's new Senior VP of Retail. Browett will assume the role previously held by Ron Johnson who left a few months ago to assume the CEO position at JC Penney.
Apple today announced that John Browett will join the company as senior vice president of Retail, reporting to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Browett comes to Apple from European technology retailer Dixons Retail, where he has been CEO since 2007. Beginning in April, he will be responsible for Apple’s retail strategy and the continued expansion of Apple retail stores around the world.
“Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met,” Tim Cook explained in Apple's press release. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple.”
In addition to his postion at Dixon's Retail, Browett previously held a number of executive positions at Tesco plc, one of which included being the CEO of Tesco.com.
Interestingly enough, Dixon's doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation when it comes to UK retail, and one Appe enthusiast went so far as to email Apple CEO Tim Cook about the recent hire.
Cook, who corresponds with users via email from time to time, responded and defended the hiring of Browett.
"I talked to many people and John was teh best by far," Cook said. "I think you will be as please as I am. His role isn't to bring Dixons to Apple, it's to bring Apple to an even higher level of customer service and satisfaction
